WHAT IS THE BEST WAY TO LEARN HOW TO SPEAK JAPANESE?

Learning how to speak Japanese is not an easy task but it is so worth it!

When I started learning to speak the language years ago there were hardly any options compared to what you have available now.

Today the three most popular ways to learn Japanese are;

• Japanese language computer program
• Japanese language online training course
• Japanese language class

I have tried all three methods and they all have their good and bad points.

Japanese language computer program

This option has recently become my number 1 favorite method for learning how to speak Japanese.

There is a computer program called Human Japanese which is like an interactive book, containing thousands of recordings, animations and quizzes. I found it really entertaining as well, as it taught me more about the Japanese culture as well as their language.

Japanese Language Online Training Course

Another way I used was to sign up with an online Japanese language course which has become very popular these days.

One problem I have found with online courses is they can greatly vary in quality but I can definitely recommend the course I used called Rocket Japanese.

Good ones will include online audio training sessions, quizzes (which are great for pushing yourself further), written examples and progress charts (which are also great for motivation).

I recommend you try an online course with a money back guarantee, as this way you won’t risk your money before you decide if it works for you.

Another advantage of an online course is you can continue learning while you are in Japan, which worked out great for me.

Japanese Language Class

A Japanese language class can be quite expensive and for me personally I had problems learning past the initial beginner words but they work great for some people. I think because everyone in the class was at different levels and this seemed to break the flow of learning.

So I could not personally recommend a physical Japanese language class but a friend did have success with this method, so they must work for some people.

There are some Japanese language companies that offer one to one training but I found their prices very expensive but if money is no object then this might be a great option for you.

I can’t recommend a specific class as it depends on your location but please make sure you research them first via Google before spending any money.

Most Important Tip for Learning How to Speak Japanese

The most important thing you can do though is to ‘do’.

Make as many Japanese friends as you can before going to Japan and while in Japan.

The fact that you are with Japanese people will mean your learning speed will dramatically improve.

I can’t stress how important this is and it will greatly help you learn to speak Japanese.

Whichever method you use to learn Japanese you will find that you will struggle at various stages. Don’t worry, as this is completely normal and it’s just a case of sticking with it and you’ll find things get easier very soon after.

Learning Japanese is such a fulfilling thing to do. You will find it much easier to make friends and even have romances once you can speak Japanese.
